PRO: Has won more league championships than any other QB in history except Bart Starr..... Can equal the latter's record with his 5th in 1980..... Had his two greatest seasons the last two years and is the indispensible man on the Steeler roster..... Followed his sensational 1978 performance with his best season statistically last year..... Set team and personal records for attempts (472), completions (259), and yards (3,724), becoming the first Steeler ever to throw for 3,000 yards..... Was 3rd in the NFL in total yardage..... Had his best season prior to 1978-79 in 1975 in 1975 when he became the youngest QB since John Unitas (1958-1959) to win back to back NFL titles..... Was again outstanding in Super Bowl with 209 yard, 2-TD game vs. Dallas in Super Bowl X, including game-winning 64-yarder to Lynn Swann..... Suffered concussion on that play which kept him from playing in first Pro Bowl..... Named 1975 NFL Player of the Year by Football News..... Was plagued by neck and wrist injuries in 1976 which sidelined him for four games completely and halves of four others..... Set an AFC playoff record by completeing 77.8 percent (14-18) of his passes in a first-round win over Baltimore..... Steelers went to more of a passing game in 1977 and he played the last 11 games with a hard cast protecting a fractured left wrist injured against Houston..... Voted team MVP for first time that year..... Has been selected to the Pro Bowl three times including the last two seasons and played in the game twice..... Early in his career was a great threat running the ball and is still an effective scrambler with exceptional speed and strength..... Is very tough to bring down..... Is very durable..... Has played in every game the last three years and in his entire career has missed just 8 out of a possible 162 games due to injury..... Has talked of retirement but is in great physical condition and can play several more seasons on a full-time basis..... Is a sure Hall of Famer.

PERSONAL: Lives in Grand Cane Louisiana where he has a 400 acre cattle ranch..... Is married to JoJo Starbuck, a professional ice skater..... Has performed as a professional entertainer in singing and acting roles..... Once held the national schoolastic javelin record..... Was awarded and honorary Doctor of Laws degree by Alderson-Broaddus (W. Va.) in 1979.
