PRO: Had his greatest season in 1978 and became the first QB to win three Super Bowls..... Named NFL Player of the Year by Associated Press, Sport Magazine, and the Maxwell Club of Philadelphia..... Selected to ALL-NFL 1st team AP, Pro Football Writers Association, Pro Football News, College & Pro Football News and to the All AFC 1st team by United Press International and Sporting News..... Unanimous choice as the Most Valuable Player in Super Bowl XIII when he set game records of 318 yards passing and four TD passes, both of which are career highs for him, as he completed 17 of 30 passes with his 75 yard TD to John Stallworth tying a SB record..... Was named to the Pro Bowl for the secodnd time and played in the game for the first time..... During the 1978 regular season became the first Steeler to ever win a passing title when he led the AFC with and 84.8 rating..... Topped the NFL in TD passes with 28 (36 if playoffs are included), the highest total since the pro football merger in 1970 and a Steeler record, and in average yards per passing attempt for the second year in a row with a 7.92 mark..... Had 2,915 yards passing for a career high which is the second best in Steelers history..... Passed for over 200 yards in 8 of 16 regular season games to raise career total of 200 yard games to 21 but has never had a 300 yard game in the regular season.....In three games matched regular-season career high of three TD passes in one game..... Added 790 yards and eight TDs in three postseason games..... voted team MVP for the second year in a row by his teammates which is the first time any player has won the honor twice..... Is now the NFL's all-time postseason leader with 2,750 yards passing and with 22 TD's is second to Roger Staubach's 23..... Is the Steelers all-time leader in passing yardage (16,194), passing attempts (2,387), completions (1,215), TD passes (121), and interceptions (138)..... Is 10th leading rusher in team history with 1,888 yards and 5.6 average is all-time high..... Ranks second in career rushing TD's with 28..... The following season a separated shoulder kept him out four games..... Turning point in his career came in 1974 when Joe Gillam won regular job while veterans were on strike.....Regained starting position after six games with Steelers in first place..... Completed 58% of his passes in playoffs, including a 9 of 14 game with one TD vs. Minnesota in S.B. IX..... Had his best season prior to last year in 1975 when he became the youngest QB since John Unitas (1958-1959) to win back to back NFL titles..... Established a team record for passing accuracy (57.8) and had the best TD (18) to interception (9) ratio of career with highest passer rating (88.2)..... Was again outstanding in Super Bowl with 209 yard, 2-TD game vs. Dallas in Super Bowl X, including game-winning 64-yarder to Lynn Swann..... Suffered concussion on that play which kept him from playing in first Pro Bowl..... Named 1975 NFL Player of the Year by Football News and selected to UPI All AFC second team..... Was plagued by neck and wrist injuries in 1976 which sidelined him for four games completely and halves of four others..... Had possibly the best game of his career in opening round playoff victory over Baltimore that year, throwing for 264 yards and three TDs on a 14 for 18 game which is an AFC record for percentage (77.8%)..... Steelers went to more of a passing game in 1977 and he played the last 11 games with a hard cast protecting a fractured left wrist injured against Houston..... Voted team MVP for first time that year..... Earlier in his career was one of the most dangerous running QBs but in recent years has cut down his rushing attempts..... His 1978 rushing yardage (93) was the lowest of his career and most of his attempts consisted of falling on the ball to kill the clock..... Speed and strength still make him a great scrambler and this ability greatly increases his effectiveness..... At 31 is in his prime and has the desire, physical fitness and lifestyle to play well for many years..... Already has Hall of Fame credentials.

COLLEGE: Holds all school passing and total offense records..... Completed 52.5% of his passes for 7,149 yards and 42 TDs..... Was co-captain in senior year..... 1st team AP College Division, Coaches and Time All America teams and 2nd team UPI and Sporting News..... Played in North-South game and was MVP in Senior Bowl..... Liberal Arts major.

PERSONAL: Is married to JoJo Starbuck, a professional ice skater..... Lives in Pittsburgh and Grand Cane, Louisiana where he owns and manages a 400 acre cattle ranch..... Performs as a country and western singer and in that role has made several national television appearances..... At one time held the national schoolastic javelin record..... Was awarded and honorary Doctor of Laws degree by Alderson-Broaddus (W. Va.) last spring
