1984 Pittsburgh Steelers Season
Season Summary: The 1984 Steelers weren't pretty, but they were resilient and found ways to win. Bradshaw and Franco were gone. Lambert was playing through pain and would retire after the season. Mark Malone was better than Stoudt, and he fought. But he was wildly inconsistent and couldn’t be counted on from week to week.
The defense was solid all year, finishing top 5 in yards allowed. The offense leaned on a 3-headed backfield centered around Franco, and got a major spark from rookie WR Louis Lipps. John Stallworth turned back the clock with one of his best seasons.
Just making the playoffs was a surprise. They slipped in with a stunning road win over the Raiders, then shocked the world by taking down Elway and the Broncos in Denver. Their Cinderella run ended in Miami, but for a team with no business being there, it was a remarkable ride.
