Despite a broken thumb on his throwing hand, Steve Young hits l3 of his first 15 passes for 128 yds and 2 TDs in the first 15 minutes and 6 seconds of the game. Meanwhile, Barry Foster fumbles on Pittsburgh's opening drive and Mike Tomczak throws 2 INTs while completing only 4 of 11 for 46 yds before being replaced by Neil O'Donnell in the 2nd half. O'Donnell, who was not expected to play due to elbow tendinitis, completes 9 of 16 for 92 yds and directed scoring drives on his first two possessions.

Rod Woodson sparks the defense with 2 second half INTs to keep momentum building and two Gary Anderson field goals bring the Steelers to within 17-13 with 2:34 left in the 3rd quarter. But Young clinches the victory by going 5 for 5 for 55 yds on an 80-yd drive capped by a 5-yd scoring pass to Jones.
