Predictions for Week 12: Steelers at Browns
Loyalty? What's Loyalty?
Allegience to team a foreign concept
Article by McMillen & Wife

It's been this way for me seemingly since the beginning of time. Few personal passions have endured the test of time like my love for the Steelers... and my hatred for the Browns.

I love this team, people. LOVE them. It has never mattered what our record was, who was on the roster or who was wearing the headset on the sidelines. My loyalty has been unwavering. Come game time on Sunday (or Monday), I'm there, gameface on, rooting for my Steelers to win regardless of the circumstances. Not hoping for a loss to prove a personal theory-turned-mantra that the coach is a no-good bum. Not rooting against our QB because I've spent more time and energy tearing him down than cheering for the team. I cheer on the good guys no matter what.

It's called loyalty, people... something that is apparently a foreign concept to many fans. As Joel Elliot once said, "Most people can't be loyal. It's not that they don't want to... they're just not smart enough to understand the implications."

How true. It's one thing to question coaching and personnel decisions. But openly disrespecting (even hating) someone on the team, particularly the head coach, is betrayal. It's mutiny.

"What good is mostly loyal? Benedict Arnold was mostly loyal." - Robert Milroy

A lot of people are applauding how the Browns and Buccaneers have dealt with their team "cancers", the K.J. twins (Keyshawn and Kevin Johnson), heralding the drastic measures as "great coaching moves". Wonder what would happen to some of you people if similar measures could be taken against so-called fans who are cancers?

Methinks a little radical surgery would be in order.

So to all of you so-called Steelers fans out there who have done little for the better part of two months but wimper and whine and bitch like a four year old on a two-hour back seat trip... kiss my ass. And to all of the inbred, blazing Cuyahoga River-poisoned, Milkbone-eating, beer bottle-throwing Browns fans out there who, in spite of your lowly 4-6 record, think you won the damn Super Bowl on October 5th... kiss my ass.

I'll be rooting for my team first and foremost this Sunday... but I'll also be rooting against you losers. The Steelers are gonna win this game, folks, and when they do, it will be gratifying to know that all of you fair-weather fans out there won't be able to enjoy it like those of us who truly love our team.

Someone made the comment on our message board that the Steelers are a pile of shit. To which I reply:

"Compromised loyalty is worth less than shit. At least you know where you stand with shit." - George Franks

Quite right. And we all know what color shit is.

Tims's Prediction: Steelers 20, Browns 17
Sandy's Prediction: Steelers 20, Browns 17

Wow! That's the first time Sandy and I have ever predicted the same score! See 'ya after the game, bruthas & sistas!

Tim McMillen
Webmaster, McMillen & Wife

P.S. -- It's worth noting that the Steelers are not having K.J. cancer problems of their own. One of the more interesing developments this season is how remarkably well the team has held together through this. Guess what?

That's called LOYALTY.

Comment: Loyalty

Tim that was absolutely beautiful. Enduring hard times is what testing loyalty is all about, you find out what kind of a person you are when your team is 3-7. Me? I still drive around with "STEELERS" accross my windsheild on my truck, I still have my steelers tattoo on my right arm, I love this team more then life itself, I am proud to say i'm a Steelers fan. I'm proud to say they have won 4 super bowl titles, 5 afc championship games, etc... Im proud to say that (some, like you and your wife) steelers fans are the best fans the nfl has. I'm proud to say that I attended a game in 3 rivers and heinz field. over the past 30 some odd years we have had some of the greatest coaches to ever coach the game. I'm proud of all of it reguardless that were 3-7 cuz let me tell you something, with 6 games to go a 9-7 record is still enough to not only win the afc north but also make it into the playoffs. When you make it to the playoffs your record falls right back to 0-0 and your journey to the super bowl starts. If they can do that you bet your ass ill be proud! I agree with you totally Tim. I myself have been critical of many things concerning the Steelers since 1972, but I have remained a loyal fan, win or lose. I am completely tired of bandwagon or disloyal fans who "HATE" whenever times are difficult. Those same boneheads "LOVE" again quickly when the wins start rolling in again. I realize that we as fans get frustrated by losses, but just remember how great it is to be a Steeler fan. I promise you'll get through the losses much easier.

To the asshole who said "the Steelers are a pile of shit" I would like to quote a line from Page Hamilton lead singer of the band Helmet: "I'd rather be insulted by you, than someone I respect."

Far be it, for me, with less than an hour to go before kick-off in THE Greatest Rivalry in Sports, to not stop dead in my tracks and pay homage to what may be the greatest post... pre or post-game that Tim has ever shared.

Love it! Absolutely love it.

"Flashing Pumpkins"

Of course I contend that these people referred to as "disloyal" are not disloyal at all. They were NEVER fans to begin with. They found this site and became addicted to the attention they got/get and by calling themselves "Steeler fans" they skate along when the heat is turned up. People defend them with thoughts like; At least they are Steelers Fans or We are a family even if I don't like what _____ said. Bahhhhloney!

They never were and never will be!!!

Others who gravitate to the negativity, whom don't fall into that category but, with the propensity to do just that... always gravitate to the negative... YOU might want to read Tim's post over a few thousand times and make it a new mantra. YOU are just a fly's wing above the steaming pile of excrement.

Very nice , Tim....you've been able to express my feelings about the whole season in this post.

Appreciate the well-thought-out input.

It also makes me feel a little better about sticking up for the Bus and Tommy all season.

Great point on the team (Steelers)holding together Tim. Theres all these other teams that are struggling that are stabbing there own coaches and players in the back. Thats not how the Steelers do things. I think its funny that Davis and Chukky couldn't get control of those guys so they had to cut them. Gutless IMHO.

Smog-laden skyline, Dawgie? Are you kidding? The fumes from the blazing Cuyahoga River must be getting to you, son.

By the way, for those of you who don't know, the name of my fantasy football team is "The Blazing Cuyahogas".

This snapshot of the 'Burgh was taken last October when we were in town for the Monday night game vs. the Colts (an interesting read, Steelers fans... Bradshaw was at the stadium for a haltime presentation and we were lucky enough to be within about 20 feet of him while he was speaking in the Great Hall before the game).

Where's the smog, Dawg-boy? Now go wipe that egg off your face... and no licking your balls this time.

Tokyo McMillion has been spinning his propaganda and love of the Steelers and hatred of the Browns for this game...he ragged on Steelers fans who have jumped ship and made reference to the KJ situation like that sorta thing has never and will never happen in Pittsburgh. I just have one question...how come other then the rag on no silver lining thing and the propaganda loyalty bash Browns pregame propaganda you had en't updated that since the Seattle game????? hmmmmmmmmmmmm

I've been over Piggsburghs limitations as a city and Cleveland's superior worth a million times and its really tiresome considering that you people will never get it...which is fine. Lemme just put this in perspective...both towns underwent a renaissance in the 90s...but only one of these towns everybody knows underwent a renaissance and thats Cleveland. Yes the Browns leaving was a black eye...because the city wanted to maintain a since of tradition because to us Municipal Stadium had the sentimental value that Boston and Chicago have for Wrigley Field and Fenway Park. But Cleveland took the global stage...not just national GLOBAL for the opening of the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. CHECK MATE

Comment: Re: check

Here's a reality check for you, Sucka.

Your beloved Browns have been to the playoffs a staggeringly low two times in the last 14 years. Hell, even the Cardinals have made it once during that same span. That in and of itself oughta be embarrassing enough for you to break out the paper bag and back out of this place, bowing profusely in submission.

What's even more amusing is that on both occasions, it was the Steelers who sent your out-of-place ladies home from the playoffs with their tails between their legs.

Man, I LOVE it! Don't you realize what a FOOL you are coming here and trying to talk trash? We OWN you! Sorry, dude... one win in seven tries isn't just cause to be dangling off the front of your sinking ship screaming "I'm king of the world!" And you call US delusional?

Only in Cleveland -- where Modell had to kick, bite and claw his way OUT of town and move to Baltimore (clearly an improvement, in his view, murder capital and all) before he could get a Lombardi... only in Cleveland would fans be stupid enough to be so ecstatic with a 4-6 record.

By the way, quit with the bogus "Cleveland renaissance" crap. Everytime you people board up a crack house, you call it a "renaissance". Give it a rest, Sucka... nobody's buying it.

Listen, I don't blame you for wanting to escape conversation with your fellow human debris in Cleveland by coming here. It's only natural that you would wanna surround yourself with those of a higher pedigree. But it's time to go home now, Sucka. You smell of Lake Erie and I can't have you stinking up the joint anymore.

P.S. -- As my supposed lack of updates since the Seattle game, once again, you're wrong ass boy. The site has been constantly updated. Stats, scores, news and standings don't just refresh themselves.

I don't think it could have been any better, Tim. One of the reasons I stayed away from the board early this season is because I didn't want to read some of the negativity that pops up when we lose. Sorry, but there's always a "Finger of Doom" looking for someone to pin the loss on after we lose. I've been a Steeler fan since birth and as I always say, I am a true believer and think we'll pull it out until the last game of the season is over. That's why I stood behind Kordell all those years. I still like to point out former Steelers on teams we play to my viewing buddies, because a part of them will always be black and gold.

And I still believe we're gonna win the AFC North this year. It's Tennessee in the playoffs (again) that I'm worried about!

some of the negativity is ok i even add some once in awhile.but wow when we lose its all over the board even from other teams.but when we win its kind of quiet which is strange in a way.oh well heres some negativity seems the damn refs screwed us over again.this time refs were supposed to let the clock tick over in baltimore.instead the dumb refs didnt reset the clock and allowed baltimore to keep some seconds to get that lucky comeback.damn if only the refs knew what they were doing. we could be only a game from first place if we beat the bungles.

Comment: Pride of a True Steeler Fan.

My family is from Pittsburgh. My grandfather worked for PPG (Pittsburgh Plate Glass) and just before my father was born, my grandfather was transferred to Illinois. I visit my family in the Burgh as often as I can, and when I'm there I feel more at home than anywhere else in the world. I have had the steel of Pittsburgh running through my veins since birth. For my first Halloween I was dressed as a Steelers football player. I have never witnessed a Steelers team winning the Super Bowl, I'm only nineteen years old, but I grew up idolizing Woodson, Lloyd, and Greene. My love for the Steelers is like a religion. I worship the team, through thick and thin. Bradshaw, Mean Joe, Swann, Lambert, Ham, Webster, The Curtain, Stallworth, Franco, Coach Noll, although I wasn't alive when these Gods brought championships to our city, I feel like I 've lived it, I was alive to see the work of the devil himself, Neil O'Dumbass when he handed the Super Bowl the Cowpies. The love from the fans is like family, they pass down the stories of how Lambert was the most feared man in the world, how the grace of Swann was breath taking, and so on.

The city is built on toughness. Its the "Steel City". Yes it's rough right now, 4-7, but so what. What are we going to do, suck it up. We are the STEELERS, not the Brownies, the Bungles or the Crows. This is our division, the AFC North, and I'll be damned if I'm going to give up on us now. I am a Pittsburgh Steelers Fan, and I love my team, and if someone calls my team a "piece of shit", I get a little pissed.

So to all of the true Steelers fans out there, I want to send my love. We are a family, and families stick together.

HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very touching posts everyone. Especially that one from Physco. Sounds like a good kid, wish he was one of mine...

And Hootie I agree, the last couple of weeks especially, has been hard coming to this site. A lot of negativity. I know players and coaches are doing the best they can, yet there are a lot of posters on this site that has just given up on the season.

We have definitely got an up hill battle from here and now unfortunately we have to depend on the Ratbirds and Bungles to choke on at least one game (which shouldn't be too hard for them to do). Then we have to win out, including sweeping both of them. Right now I still believe we can do it.

Comment: loyalty

good post, tim and all. i agree totally. ive been a fan my whole life and i support the team good times and bad. 0-16 or 16-0 doesn't matter, its my team. win or lose. i admit, i do enjoy the wins much more.

we certainly are still allowed to criticize players and/or actions, but there is a sort of 'respect' line in there somewhere. when crossed, it just becomes a destructive rant and loses credo with us "lifers" and comes off as a kind of breach of team loyalty.

anyway...go stillers! forever!
