Return to Power Football Refreshing
Article by McMillen & Wife

Aside from Tommy Maddox under center in Cinci Sunday, the Steelers looked strikingly similar to their 2001 incarnation: power running and overwhelming defense combined with suspect special teams and a missed chip-shot field goal.

This victory was much more lopsided than the final score.

The relatively close score belies Pittsburgh's dominance. The Steelers held nearly a 15-minute edge in time of possession (37:06 to 22:54), doubled Cinci in total yardage (376 to 182) and first downs (22 to 11), and allowed Cinci to convert only 3 third downs. You won't lose many games playing like that.

Okay, so we mauled Cinci. Big deal?

To be honest, it really isn't a big deal. Yeah, our offensive line finally showed some signs of life, particularly in the second half when they were downright dominant. That's good. Alan Faneca is on his way to the Pro Bowl. That's good. Our defense continues to show signs of improvement over last year. That's good. Even Jerome Bettis looked like his old self. That's good.

But the Bengals? They're NOT good.

Not that I'm complaining, mind you. In the end, it's a win against a division "rival" on the road. I'll definitely take it. But I'm certainly not gonna gloat over it... especially with the Tennessee Titans looming on the horizon.

Until then, bruthas & sistas!
