Game Bawls
With all those tears flying, it can be downright confusing trying to tell if Dick Vermeil is happy or sad. Fear not... Mac and Wife is here to help. Here's the tipoff: if Dick is slapping large men on the ass between sobs, he's happy. Let's hope the Steelers are the only ones administering a spanking on Sunday.

Tears for Fears
Outcome depends on secondary
Article by McMillen & Wife
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little worried about this one, but bruthas and sistas, this should be one heck of a good game! I expect Coach Vermeil to have the waterworks going full blast, regardless of the final score. From the players to the coaches to the fans, everyone has their eyes on the outcome of this game as a sort of benchmark to guage how far each team has come... as well as how far they might go.
I'm short on time this week, so rather than stating the obvious (STOP PRIEST HOLMES), I just wanna touch on a few other things I'd like to see from the Steelers.
A little more of Randle El, including under center.
Yeah, I realize that Tommy Maddox is playing superb ball, and I suspect he will put up good numbers vs. the Chiefs. But if you go back and look at what really doomed the Chiefs when we played them in the past, it was an unstoppable running game... something we appear to no longer possess. And Kordell Stewart's running ability was a large part of that rushing attack. By no means am I lamenting the departure of Kordell. Just pointing how much damage he did with his legs. 4 or 5 direct snaps to Randle El on run/pass options along with a few of the more typical gadget plays and pitch-outs to "El-Yeah" in the backfield will really help loosen things up.
Smart play by our secondary, and in particular, our safeties.
In my view, the game will decided right here. We're gonna need outstanding performances from Scott and Washington, and INTELLIGENT play from Logan and Alexander. As good of a runner as Priest Holmes is, I think we can contain him on the ground. The problem is, Holmes poses as much or more of a threat as an outlet receiver. Containing Holmes while not jumping all over play action or letting Trent Green dump little flat passes to him all day is going to stretch our defense to the limit, particularly our safeties. And then there's the threat of Tony Gonzalez, banged up or not. Unfortunately, Gonzalez is a mismatch against any of our safeties or linebackers, and the Steelers have proven to be vulnerable to receiving TE's in the past. The Chiefs can score FAST, so one little mistake is all it will take.
Pressure from our front seven, with an emphasis on our D-Line.
Aaron Smith had a HUGE game against Baltimore last week. He'll need one again this week against a very good KC O-line, because if we fail to get consistent pressure Trent Green, if could be a LONG afternoon. Jason Gildon is also gonna have to crank it up a notch. Gildon was the invisible man last week vs. Baltimore. He needs to introduce himself to Trent Green frequently for the Steelers to succeed.
The Bottom line: The team that settles for the most FGs loses.
Okay, so it's a bit axiomatic to say we need to score more points than they do. But in a game that could easily end up producing 70 points and 800 yards of offense, it's worth mentioning hat the team who finishes their drives the best will win. Make no mistake... the Chiefs WILL be able to move the ball on us. Green threw to 8 different receivers last week vs. San Diego, so they will be able to spread us out. The key is stiffening in the red zone while making the most out of our scoring opportunities.
Tims's Prediction: Steelers 30, Chiefs 24
Sandy's Prediction: Steelers 27, Chiefs 20
Gotta run. Forgive my type-O's and random musings, as I'm cranking this out in a hurry. I'm playing on our praise team at church tomorrow and have to be up at the crack of dawn (in otherwords, it's officially WAY past my bedtime), play two services, then burn rubber back home to catch the start of the game. Any old ladies who get in my way coming out of chruch are gonna be very sorry. See 'yins after the game, bruthas & sistas!
