Key Stats & Facts
Steelers outgain Texans 422-47, and still lose??? I've been watching football for a LOOONG time, and I have never, EVER seen anything like this. The Texans set an all-time NFL record for the lowest offensive output EVER for a winning team. Pathetic.
First downs: Steelers 24, Texans 3. This is even more embarassing when you consider that 2 of the Texans' 3 first downs came in their first drive.
Tommy's paralysis scare is still in his head. I don't blame the guy for being jittery. I never would've stepped on the field again. But what an AWFUL performance by Tommy. Horrid.

HUUURRRL!
The Steelers outgaind the Texans 422 to 47. We had 24 first downs to their 3. Yet we lost 24-6? Please excuse me while I blow chunks.

Oh, The Shame
Steelers shocked by expansion Texans
Article by McMillen & Wife
I have nothing to say about the Texans game. Let the final score and the quality of the opposition speak for themselves.
A number of bewildered fans (myself included) have opined that the Steelers should be the powerhouse of the AFC. I think the thing that needs to be asked is this:
Should we REALLY be a powerhouse?
Go back and look what we've done in recent years. 6-10 in '98. 7-9 in '99. 9-7 in '00. 13-3 in '01.

Which one doesn't belong, Big Bird?
Perhaps 2001 was a bit of a fluke. Maybe we all bought into the media hype, making our expectations unrealistically high for a team that is decent, but in reality not an emerging powerhouse.
I think you have to consider it. Look at the 3-10 Bears who finished last season atop their division at 13-3. Now, don't misunderstand... I'm not lumping the Steelers in with the hapless Bears. I think most of us expected Chicago to come back to earth this season, but 3-10? Wow.
We have a pretty good team and at certain postitions have the best group of talent in the league. But we have a lot of weaknesses. We knew about special teams coming in. We also had doubts about our secondary. But we hadn't counted on having our linebackers effectively schemed out of their game. We hadn't counted on Plaxico Burress regressing to rookie form. We hadn't counted on all of these injuries revealing our lack of depth at certain positions. We hadn't counted on all those turnovers.
We also had no way of knowing how beaten up we'd be. Think of how healthy we were last season, aside from Bettis & Bruener. We certainly haven't had that luxury this season.
There's such a fine line in the NFL these days. I hate to confess this, but I'm already thinking about next year. I hope the players aren't as mentally weak as I am. But folks, in my heart of hearts, I just can't see this team getting it done. I will be stunned and thrilled if we win out the rest of the regular season. I'll be pleasantly surprised if we win 2 of 3.
I won't be terribly shocked, on the other hand, if we lose every remaining game and miss the playoffs. That's just the kind of year it's been.
Next up: the 5-8 Carolina Panthers. If you'd asked me a couple of weeks ago, I would've already had this penciled in as a win. But now? No counting of chickens here, no sir. Not this time. See 'yins Sunday, bruthas & sistas!

P.S. -- I know the game is over, but I think Burress just dropped another pass...
