The Bungals are in the crosshairs as the Steelers aim to get back into the hunt this Sunday.
Predictions for Week 6: Steelers at Bengals
Losing is what Tiggers do best!
Dillon's "army of one" not enough
Article by McMillen & Wife

I can't speak for any of the Steeler players or coaches, but I am taking it quite personally that the Bungals are widely being heralded as the ones who "cracked" our defense late last season.

Crack THIS, mutha %#$&er. 'Yer goin' down.

Listen, don't give me this "remember what happened last year" load of crap. What happened was that a VASTLY superior Steelers team had a 4th-quarter letdown in a meaningless game that we were leading 23-10. We will NOT take these guys lightly this time around, and with a little help from Tampa Bay and Indianapolis (who play the Browns and Ravens this week), we'll be tied for first in the AFC North after Sunday.

Following Cinci's "comeback loss" to Indy last Sunday (only in Cincinnati could the phrase "comeback loss" be uttered with a straight face), Bengal cornerback Artrell Hawkins offered support to his coach (Dick LeBeau) with the following gem of a quote that I think sums up the Bungles beautifully: "It showed we not gonna give up on Dick."

Hey, Artrell... 'yer not gonna WIN dick, either.

'Ya know, I've done my best to give Cincinnati the benefit of the doubt. I mean, after all, they've faced a several pretty decent teams on their way to 0-5 (San Diego, Tampa Bay and Indianpolis). And although they're among the worst in the league vs. the run (giving up and average of 130 yards per game), that number is somewhat skewed by the HUGE numbers put up by San Diego in week 1.

Having made those allowances, the bottom line is that aside from Corey Dillon and Takeo Spikes, this team just flat-out sucks.

Jerome Bettis is going to KILL these guys. Write it down. Our offensive line has finally gotten on the same page, and Bettis is going to rip the Bungles a new one. I've seen it happen too many times to believe otherwise. Beyond that, Cinci's preoccupation with Bettis is gonna leave the floodgates wide open for play-action passes by Maddox, who should have oodles of pocket time (the Bengals have only 5 sacks in 5 games - worst in the AFC) . I fully expect things to get ugly for Cinci early.

Of course, Corey Dillon is a force to be reckoned with no matter how lame his supporting cast is. But Cinci is so bad that a even a huge game by Dillon doesn't necessarily translate into a win. After all, Dillon has been over the century mark twice this season to no avail, including his 164-yard performance last week.

Dillon's "army of one" won't be enough this week, either.

Even though Deuce McCallister looked all-world against us in New Orleans, our run defense is not early as soft as the stats might indicate. A handful of rookie mistakes cost us dearly last week, but after hearing & reading what coach Cowher had to say about it, I feel fairly confident that ILB Larry Foote (the rookie in question who was directly responsible for several huge plays by McCallister, including a 52-yard touchdown jaunt) has indeed "learned his lesson." I think Dillon will find it pretty tough sledding against us.

As for the spread formation that Cinci supposedly toppled us with, let 'em try it. In my view, anything that takes Corey Dillon out of the picture is a good thing. Jon Kitna ain't Tom Brady.

The bottom line: The Steelers long but imminent ascent back into the upper echelon of the NFL begins Sunday in Cincinnati. Please fasten your seatbelts.

Tims's Prediction: 30-13
Sandy's Prediction: 24-11

Tim, I enjoyed the post, good reading. It is really crazy that we as fans have to worry about a game against the Bengals, but thats what this season has turned too!! They seem to always play us well! A WIN is a WIN and a step in the right direction, a couple in a row will do wonders for confidence which seems to be lost!! I think to again be a good team, we gotta beat a good team! Looking at the upcoming games we have a great chance of turning things around. If we can't win four or five in a row, we just don't belong!! Read ya next week, Central FL. Steeler Fan!

Comment: Pre-game

Some pre-games are timeless, so not unlike your favorite peanuts episode I give you:

Cin City Browns
Baltimore Browns
Cleveland Browns

I beg of UPS (Brown) please stop that Viagra shipment headed for the Brown family in Cincinnati.

Truth is this team more than any other, including the ghost Browns of the North and the purpled feathered Browns of the east, have given the Steelers year in and year out a pain in the ass game. When 3-13 includes 2 wins over the Steelers you see my point. A major stomping would be nice but don't be surprised if the striped puss n boots show kicks some litter up and... no way man... Steelers 45 Brown-Bungs 0

PS. If the Bungs do "give up on Dick" will their ship go down?

Comment: Wins on the way

Maybe I am purely an optimist but I truly believe we are about to witness the biggest 180 degree spin on a football season. Our win streak is about to begin and I believe it keeps rolling. Our offense is going to get the defense some rest because our O-Line is making the necessary steps to get this turned around. This week should be a convincing win that we will build from.

Make no mistake about New Orleans either, if we had finished the comeback (even though the defense stunk) we would have beaten a pretty good team on-the-road on a mediocre day for us. That speaks volumes for our talent even though we lack some speed at the skilled positions in the secondary.

We lack speed or confiidence, one of the two. Part of our confidence problem has been resolved. We know we can once again score some points and that should give Tim Lewis more liberty in calls and allow our defense to attack instead of being so passive.

This team has not experienced the good health that it did last year and once healthy (i.e. Kendrell Bell, A.K.A differnce maker) this season will smoothe out. They can turn this thing around with some good play calling and consistent turn-over-free football.

I think this week the steelers start to find consistency. I know our defense has the heart even if part of it is playing in cleveland. I will definitely pray for it.

BJE,
Your writing just made my day. We really do need this victory over the Bungles. I printed your letter out and hung it in my Steeler museum for good luck.

Thanks!

Comment: Top Ten reasons Steelers crush Bungles

Here are the top ten reasons we kill the Bungles:

1. Bungles still using plays Neil O'Donnell designed on a napkin after his 6th Long island Ice Tea.

2. Jon Kitnas arm still sore after throwing 68 times on us last year.

3. Larry Foote is pissed about the saints game.

4. Bungles offensive coordinater was seen in his stadium office swinging a Terrible Towel, and heard screaming GO Steelers!

5. Bill Cowher's a great coach

6. The Steelers are a great team

7. The Bungles just plain flat out SUCK.

8. Takeo Spikes seen at local mall wearing Steeler jersey #8 and whispering to himself: " Tommy's the man, I'm Tommy's big fan.

9. Bungles spotted at practice watch baseball playoffs, while having a card show and flea market

10. Neil O'Donnell statue for Bungles stadium erected out front
