Steelers resume winning ways
Article by McMillen & Wife
Perhaps I shouldn't feel this good about a win over Cincinnati. I mean, after all, it's just the Bungles. But 'ya know what? For the first time all season, I felt like I was actually watching the REAL Steelers instead of some ersatz version of the black and gold. It felt GOOD! So good, in fact, that I found myself plopped on the couch at 2:00 a.m. Sunday night/Monday morning with a icy coke and a cold slice of Papa John's pizza watching the game tape again with a great big 'ole smile on my face.
All of the characteristics were there: bruising runs by Bettis. A powerful, balanced offense. An opportunistic, intimidating defense that swarmed to the ball and made sure tackles. And, of course, LOUSY special teams.
It was a beautiful thing.
I was gonna spend some time really analyzing (gloating over) this win, but folks, I'm too geeked over the upcoming game vs. the Colts to dwell on our success in Cinci. In light of that, here's our Reader's Digest condensed postgame smak:
Maddox, you're making a believer out of me.
Bettis, you've still got it, baby.
Porter, you're well on your way to the Pro Bowl.
Zereoue, you are one helluva playmaker.
Plaxico, what a difference a QB makes. Keep it up!
Randle El, 'El Yeah!
Flowers, I take back everything I said about you following the Saints game.
Larry Foote, MUCH better, my friend.
Farrior, you kicked some major ass.
Todd Peterson, you sucked some major ass.
'Nuff said. Until next game, bruthas & sistas!

Comment: Brown-Bung Post Game
Keeping in mind that 45-0 is NOT a prediction but an attitude, the final of 34-0 was 11 short of the point total of that attitude.
Yes 34-0! I don't count NFL charities work as a legitimate TD. Maybe the Bungholes would have scored anyway but again , along with the TICKY-F-ING-TACK taunting bullsheet the refs and Tagliboooyah prove week in and week out what Washington DC flaunts in our faces daily; "Bureaucrats is a dirty word defined by cowardice and the need to assert ones self where you don't belong".
Glad we won so this doesn't come off as sour grapes but Randy Cross was even a breath of fresh air compared to memo dictated bush league calls that come from somewhere where the neck tie may be Armani but is still too tight and looking out of place.
To the Steelers: That was Steelers Football ! A Lot of Work to do. However unless I'm wrong and despite the Home page pass you are NOT in FIRST PLACE. I think with the two AFC losses to the Baltimore Browns 1 the Purple Feathered Browns have the edge so, DON"T BELIEVE THE HYPE! Get on it! You play these lames Bungholes)again so don't put that broom away just yet.
Dear Todd Peterson,
Thanks for stopping by but I've seen High School Kickers get it past the 20 on kick-offs. Harsh? Well if I was the coach, and I'm not, you would be cut. For those who have read my scribblings for years you know I don't say that lightly.
Tommy

Comment: Kicking Game
Yeah, I have an idea! Open try outs, there has got to be a kicker out there who can kick off to the end zone! Our local High School kid (10th Grade on varsity) kicks into or near the end zone nearly every time, and has two 40 yard field goals. ( I don't think his mom wants to drive him to the burgh on weekends). That part of our game will hurt us again soon!! But it nice to have a win!!!!!!!! TO BE A GOOD TEAM WE GOTTA BEAT A GOOD TEAM, SO WE WILL SEE SOON. Enjoy it for now, it makes getting up on Monday a lot better! KICK-ASS STEELER NATION!!!!!!!!!!

Comment: It was the clock management...
...or lack of it I was referring too. While Peterson's poor play is a definite issue, look at the last possessions of the first half of the last two games (NO game stat under Cowher dropped the ball) and tell me...
Peterson missed the FG attempt on THIRD DOWN. They had TOs and again just like last week burnt time(:15 after first down then :29 seconds after second down) and didn't use them. To make it worse they were in the RED ZONE this week.
POOR CLOCK MANAGEMENT BILL!
SIXTY MINUTES!
How many games in the Bill Cowher Era have come down to the last play, either on D or O. If they treat the last minute of the first half like the last minute of the second half, they might, just might avoid one of those situations in the future. At the very least they could use the practice.
It's fundamental.
It's killer instinct.
It's a will to win.
And how many times have we all heard Bill Cowher talk about opportunity/opportunities?

Comment: Kickoffs stink
Tommy,
I think we need a kicker. Todd Peterson may come around soon, but if he dosen't... Change is always good if it's for the better.

Comment: I hear ya
On one hand, we do need a kicker. BUT, Cowher has always had clock management problems in crunch time. It's very irritating. I can't remember how many times I've stood in front of my TV yelling "call a time-out you stupid son-of-a...well, I'm sure you guys have done it too. Then to add insult to injury, I gotta watch the press conference later on where he says, "the time management is on me." Well, yes it is Bill---maybe you could use a little practice youself. You sure got throwing the red flag down to an art! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....
Sorry guys---end rant
