Key Stats & Facts
• Time of Possession --- Pittsburgh 39:18, Detroit 20:42: Over the last 4 games, the Steelers have dominated T.O.P. by a total of 156 to 84 minutes. Only one opponent (Tampa Bay) has held the ball longer against the Steelers all season, and that was by a paltry 4 seconds in a game the Steelers otherwise dominated.
• Total Yardage --- Pittsburgh 429, Detroit 151: Another ongoing trend. Over the last three weeks, the Steelers have outgained their opponents by more than two-to-one, piling up 1250 yards to just 578 yards!

The Steelers took care of business and whipped a team they should whip........but then again, they're whipping EVERYONES ASS!! This is Pittsburghs year to win it all,in 1995 Cowher seemed just too happy winning the AFC crown, this year no tears until the Superbowl trophy has been won by the Steelers. Now is the time!!..If the Rams make it to the big show vs. the Steelers they are meat,as Tampa Bay proved on Monday night football, just blitz the hell outta Warner and you win!!The Rams turn the ball over too much,if they do it in the playoffs the only way they'll get to the Superbowl is if they buy tickets!

To the Steelers, stay focused and go get what BELONGS to you!

GO STEELERS!

Our defense has shown that it can be stronger than their offense, esp. in Gildon and Holmes. The younger players are already showing their abilities. Chad Scott is alwaysa threat. And NEVER fumble a football within 15 feet of Gildon, or you WILL lose it!

Our offense can-and will, thanks in large part to our delightfully deceptive new offensive coordinator- roll a lot of points up on the scoreboard against the Rams (or Bears, or whoever). What is key is to NOT get sloppy, esp. on coverage. That said, if the coverage tightens it up a bit, they'll be unbeatable. If Chris Brown changes his kicking line of attack just a few degrees, HE'LL be unbeatable. This is the beginning of a new dynasty.

Kris Brown HAS to stay, at least for the duration of this season. The outpouring of support expressed by his teammates (in particular, Kordell Stewart) in spite of Brown's miscues has strengthened the fiber of this team. How could Cowher possibly cut a player whom the rest of the team is so demonstratively behind? He can't. He won't. Brown isn't going anywhere, so let's move on, follow the example of his teammates and rally behind him.

It's worth pointing out that Brown's struggles have forced Mularkey and the Steelers discover that it's better to get the ball across the goal line than the cross bar. The field goal percentage is down, but the red zone TD percentage is up. A coincidence? Don't think so. Perhaps what has been happening with Kris Brown is a blessing in disguise, folks.

One little side note... remember what happened to Gary Anderson? The guy was the ONLY kicker in the history of the NFL to make EVERY SINGLE field goal and extra point attempt during the regular season with the Vikings in '98. But what did he do in the NFC Championship? He missed a chip-shot field goal that should've won the game for the Vikes, and as a result, the Falcons went to the Super Bowl.

The moral of the story? Don't put yourself in a postion wherre you have to count on your kicker to win it (with apologies to Mike Ditka).

Hey, Alaska, U Should read the Book of Acts. Y'all look for creative and new ways to actually 'mock' Kris Brown every time he steps on to the field !

Rectus-Holataudi

Ahhh, Tis the season...

Yeah right. There is "Only One" person in all of history (and before time) who could/can forgive and forget. But you or me or anyone must repent first and then be washed by "The Blood".

It's funny(well tragic actually) that Jesus will forgive and then "FORGET" but we can't seem to.

Has the sun set up there yet? Try to take care of your own transgressions before you threaten Bill Cowher with "Unforgivness". You look for creative and new ways to actually mock Kris Brown every time he steps on to the field !

Might be Kris Brown needs to dip his leg in all 3 rivers but you need to strap on some tennies and start kicking a few and maybe some day you and your Alaskanian co-horts will be good enough to "Fail" at the highest level.

As for Kris Brown
Until he's not
He is A Pittsburgh Steeler!
Something your Obviously not.

Thank you Tim for putting together such a bad-ass site. I've been a Steeler fan since I was 4 years old. Living in Hawaii, I have reduced to the fact that I'll never see a game at Heinz Field. (crap) Well maybe not just yet. I know Cris Brown is struggling and that may be the understatement of the year, but if Bill wants to play 'em, we (as Steeler fans) need to support him. It just kills me to hear the BOO(s). We need to boost CB's confidence as much as possible. Confidence, or lack there of, is what made him miss the last couple of kicks in the Ravens game. I doubt if Cowher would ever pull Brown out after he takes the field, just because of the booing. Knowing Cris is going to kick the ball regardless of fan response. Knowing that the Boo(s) can only damage his confidence. Whoever doesn't cheer him on is (in my book) really a Rat Bird Fan. GO STEELERS!!!!

It would be terrible to loose another game because of missed field goals. In his defense he is kicking 60% at Hienz, opposition though are only kicking 50%. Something about the playing field at Heinz, not just Kris it appears. Go Steelers, keep your head up Kris.....

Guys, we're keeping Kris Brown till the end of the postseason.

Chris Mortenson made a great point. He said that if we cut Kris Brown, what kind of mentality will that place in our new kicker? It's like replacing Doug Flutie with Rob Johnson into the playoffs.

Kris Brown is sucking right now. I'll admit it. But he's also had those games where he has won the game. He's the best kicker we have right now. And it is vital that he gets out of this slump before the booing starts in the postseason (@ heinz). Take the time to see how Kris has done the past two seasons. If he is in a slump now, then what do you call his first two seasons? Something EXPECTED of a kicker? HE WAS AMAZING his first two years. He's in a slump now. But ride on this one, and see where it takes us.

It does make me nervous thinking that his kick may determine the game. So i don't plan to boo him at Heinz. Most fans there seem to pick up pretty slowly of noticing change (i.e. Kordell in 2000). Kris needs to realize that playing the Rams in the Super Bowl may boil down to his performance. We are one of the worst red zone offenses, so Kris needs to be kicking those field goals for any scoring effort to occur.

A 48 yard FG is pretty tough folks. Kris has still been effective at shorter ranges, circa 30 yarders.

One final note. I'm sure Cowher and co. realize Kris' slump. ANd chances are, they're trying to find ways right now to get him out of it.

P.S.--I just realized Sandy's practically 2:1 on picks this year.

*SHEESH*. Like i said before, that's better than most of the ESPN "expert" picks.

Hey Sandy, ever consider Vegas?

Granted, Alaska, they are 2 totally different positions bro, but lack of confidence is lack of confidence no matter what angle it's coming from. This may not be likely but lets just say he makes every attemp from here on out, would he still need to go because he missed some important ones earlier or would he be one of the best kickers you've ever seen? I say at least give him the rest of the season, if he continues to fail, for the most part, then i say bring in someone else. It's also too hard to compare being employed by the NFL to any other job. I do see where you're coming from, but anyone working under me would get a few chances to redeem him or herself. If they continue to fail then they most definitely would have to go. He still has a life or two left so lets give him the benefit of the doubt. With the way the rest of the team is playing, i don't see it coming down to a field goal anyway! GO STEELERS!!!

Mr. Brown, Sorry to disagree. Quarterback and placekicker are slightly different positions. Kordell came through and became a great quarterback, but when we looked at replacing him (at least for a while) it was not that easy. How many college seniors last year were booting 40 yard field goals consistently that are now involved in their "life's work"? Someone in the Steelers organization needs to pick up the phone and start making phone calls! How much understudy is required?? When the ball reaches the holder, swing your leg just like in college and give us 3. It is just not as involved as changing quarterbacks....

Those of us who are in some sort of managerial position in our work can understand. If a troop cannot meet standards, I have to take action. It is nothing personal, but my failure to act because I like the person can hurt the organization. Kris Brown seems like a great guy. It is nothing personal but he must go....NOW!! He majored in education and I am sure he will make a great teacher, he just happens not to be a very good kicker.

Again, it is not often that we have a team that can truely kick anyone's aXX!! I was only 10 when the Steelers won their last Super Bowl. I want the chance to see the Steelers get another one!! Bill, nobody cares when the Steelers are mediocre, but when we are great, the pressure as a head coach should be increased, not decreased.

GO STEELERS!!

Oh yeah! To hell with the Rams! They are still queers! Steelers vs. 49ers or Steelers vs. Bears in the Super Bowl!! Hoorah!!

We haven't won anything yet! Let's not be happy with just a winning season! These guys have to stay hungry and mean!

If we meet the Ravens in the playoffs, they will be gunning for us and Kordell! The kicking game and the long ball defense still is a question mark! While we are on the subject of the kicking game, what is Cowher waiting for, if Matt Bahr has been to the Steelers camp since the Ravens loss, why don't we just ask him to suit up, Morton Anderson is still playing why can't we give him a Jersey?????

How many chances does Brown get?

If he was a QB, he would be on the bench, I understand how and why Kordell is backing Brown, but even Kordell got benched when he was not playing good! If this kid is playing hurt he should say that and lets go from that point, but to blame the grass or anything else is just stupid! This kid could cost us big if we don't do something soon!

I am a 25 year Steeler fan from California.. I have been agonizing over every kick and extra point Kris has attempted... The only person in this world with less faith in Kris than me is Kris himself... Have you seen his face when he has to go in...??

The worst word in sports for a player is POTENTIAL... And he may have that... But, I would hate to lose another Raven-esque game in the playoffs with a kicker with potential.. We need production and now... ex- XFL, ex-college, ex-high school- bring'em in I say.. Find a productive kicker... Make Kris kick or get off the pot....

Thanks for letting me vent... Today was a great game for the Steelers... Less the kicking game.

Submitted by ILSteeler
Can't Agree more, Alaska. Brown could kill us in the playoffs. Missing extra points for a NFL kicker is completely pathetic. He must go and now. I'm tired of watching the opposing offense get another 17 yards everyone time he walks on the field, I'd rather they punt than miss another 30 yarder. There has to be someone out there available that can do better than this.

Submitted by sdclong
You're absolutely right, Alaska... action should be taken. I've been bashed before for critisizing Kris Brown on this board, but the truth is he's NOT doing his job. How many of you will support him if he loses a playoff game for us? He has been a good kicker the last two years, it's true. But we've played on turf the last two years. For whatever reason, he just can't kick on grass. I say it's time to adjust our thinking and bring in a kicker who CAN kick on grass. It would be a shame to ruin this season because of a d%#@&! kicker! The good news is, I believe the Super Bowl will be played on turf, so if we do get there, maybe we'll be alright.

It wouldn't be soon forgiven or forgotten if we lost in the playoffs or the superbowl because of Kris Brown. He is in a terrible slump right now but he has potential to be the best kicker in the league and coach cowher knows that. No one feels worse about it than he does but believe me he will come up smelling like roses the same way Kordell has. Don't write him off just yet! Kris if you read this bro, don't think about it man just do it like 1 2 3!! Your bros need you man! GO STEELERS!!!

Well we bearded dem pesky ole lions in our den rather than theirs, and i sure loved the final score, buts lets not get too excited, keep that game day face on, and never slackoff boys and girls, were gonna be in one hell of a war durring the playoffs, dont EVER let up, and go for the throat, GO STEELERS!!!!!!

Submitted by Alaskan Steeler Fan
Here in Alaska when Kris Brown comes out to try an extra point or field goal, we all laugh and see who can come up with the most sarcastic comments about his kicking. What about closer to home? Are you people living back East getting concerned about this fellow as well? It is all very funny when we play a team like the Lions, but what about a playoff game against say Baltimore or the Raiders. We will not be blowing those teams out and our kicker may be an important figure. Teams like the 2001 Steelers only come about once in every great while. It is important for the coaching staff to take advantage of the talent on this team because there may not be another chance for some time. ACTION MUST BE TAKEN!! At least get another kicker on the practice squad!! Bill, if we lose in the playoffs or Super Bowl because of our kicker, it will not soon be forgiven...
