Ray Lewis can huff and puff an beat his chest all he wants. The guy has talked a better game than he's played all year. As long as he doesn't come at us with wielding a knife in one hand and Johnny Cochran in the other, his ass is gonna get handled just like it did in November. Lewis had all of 4 tackles in that game, and aside from one notable hit on Bettis (after a nice gain), Lewis did little, in spite of the fact that the Steelers ran right at him all afternoon.
I don't mean to make light of the Ravens, but in my opinion, these guys are 8-4 by using smoke and mirrors. True, they've won 5 of their last 6 contests including a GIFT win over the Steelers. But when you look closely at how they've eeked out those wins, it becomes apparent that these guys don't really amount to the swaggering juggernaut they like to portray themselves as.
Raven Facts
Record: 8-4
Defense rated 3rd in NFL in yardage, 9th in points allowed, and 8th in sacks.
Offense is 9th in passing and 10th overall, but 26th in rushing and 30th in fumbles lost.
Baltimore's winning streak came on the heels of a 24-14 loss in Cleveland, a game in which Grbac coughed up the ball for an easy Cleveland TD on the first play and threw a pair of INTs.
Baltimore came back to win 18-17 over the Jaguars the following week, but only after cramming 12 points into the 4th quarter.
Next came the win in Pittsburgh, a game the Steelers thoroughly dominated but lost because Kris Brown missed 4 FGs.
The Ravens won in similar bizarre fashion the following week, 16-10, over the Titans on Monday Night. Steve McNair appeared to score the game-winning TD by diving into the end zone as time expired, but an encroachment call on the Ravens meant the ball was dead, and McNair failed on his second attempt punch it in.
Then came another humiliating loss to Cleveland (27-17) in which Grbac threw 4 picks (one of which was returned for a TD) and lost a fumble. Gee, do you think these morons wish they had Dilfer back?
The following week in Jacksonville, the Ravens squandered a 17-0 lead and trailed 21-17 before scoring on a Sharpe TD with just 9 seconds left.
And in their last game, they outlasted the hapless Colts, 39-47, in a wild, see-saw contest that wasn't sealed until Rod Woodson returned a HORRIBLE Manning pass 47-yards for the icing TD.
The Ravens had a bye last week.
My point? The Ravens could (and probably should) be 5-7, not 8-4. Smoke and mirrors, people... smoke and mirrors.
All that is gonna end Sunday. Offensively, the Steelers will be able to move the ball on these guys as they did in the first game. With Bettis still banged up at best and out of the game at worst, the running game probably isn't gonna dominate. That's one thing that hasn't come apart for the Ravens. But the Steelers will be able to pass. Nearly every team the Ravens have played has had success throwing the ball, including Stewart, and I fully expect him to rip these guys again, especially if Bettis plays. The question mark is, will the Steelers finish their drives this time? If they do, this could be a runaway.
Defensively, it's gonna be a beautiful thing to see Tim Lewis turn loose Bell, Porter, Holmes and Gildon on an immobile stiff of a QB with no real running threat in the backfield slow us down. Elvis is horrendous under pressure, and therein lies the key to victory. The other key matchups in this game will be our linebackers on Shannon Sharpe and Chad Scott on Qadry Ismail. The ONLY way the Ravens can win this one is get a few cheap scores. If Scott struggles or Sharpe is allowed to roam the field unmolested, we might have some trouble. Both Sharpe and Ismail had moderate success in the Nov. 4th game, but neither was devastating, and that's the kind of performance the defense must put up this week.
Two more points to ponder on this game. Baltimore coming off a bye week. A Ravens win would pull them to within a game of Pittsburgh, and in a tie-breaking scenario, Baltimore would win because of their head-to-head sweep. A win for the Steelers, on the other hand, will give them their first AFC Central crown and their first playoff berth in four long years, not to mention further solidiying their bid for home-field advantage in the playoffs.
The bottom line: This is a BIG'UN that the Steelers will win, folks.
Tims's Prediction: 23-10
Sandy's Prediction: 24-16

Relax Steeler friends! The Steelers have a 2 game lead on the Ravens!
The last 3 are Lions, Bengals, Browns. We will be fine. The Steelers will play
well. The Ravens are in a must win situation, so if for some reason we should
lose we will still be fine. Look at the posts by the purple doo-doo eater on
this site! The Vikings just lost to the Lions! That guy needs to be put on a
suicide watch! Our team is 10-2, time for great joy! Enjoy the game..
I also heard that this idiot spouted to the Baltimore fans that if they see any
steeler fans they should follow them to the bathroom and take care of buisness.
Then he stated that he was just joking. This stupid idiot just doesn't get it
even though he stated he was just joking it only takes an idea for another bunch
of idiots to react. Beware my fellow Steeler fans it only takes a spark.
P.S.--- If that pig doesn't get a fat fine from the league office, for saying what he
did last week, then there is a problem bigger than his fat sorry ass in the NFL!
I can't wait for this game,I hope the Steelers show up,they have so far,10-2 baby!!It's payback time,I hate the Ravens, every damn thing about them!!Note to our kicker Kris Brown, make this your best game pal and all will be forgiven and forgotten.
The Ravens have been doing alot of yapping because they know they are a sinking ship.Hey ''goose'' I wish I could be at that game to kick your fans faces in,you are a big dumb retard!!Rod Woodson is a traitor,up yours Woodson!!
I hope to hell the Steelers stomp a large hole in all your heads, the Ratbirds are a bunch of losers that got lucky last year, not this year though.GO STEELERS!!! F#@K 'EM UP!!!
Nice Rant, Lambert'sDenture! You are right on the money. They keep showing this GREAT hit he put
on Bettis. You know the one, where Bettis had just ran NINE yards was being
brought down by the safety and Lewis ran up and hit Bettis as he was falling
down. What a man, they probably gave him credit for a tackle. Lewis also said
they have had the best defense for the last three years? Show me the stats to
back that up! He also said that to say we dominated them last game was
ignorant. Can you believe Ray Lewis calling someone else ignorant. He is too
stupid to see that using him as a standard to measure other LBs by, Bettis paid
him a compliment.
What a DICKWEED! I CANNOT wait for this game to be played.
Ray Lewis was caught saying he wouldn't trade any of his players for any of our
players.
Excuse me while i kiss da' sky.
Anyways, Ray, you supid little boy, you have no idea what you're talking about.
Yes he may say that NOW, but he'll be tlaking different once the season ends.
"Oh please! Oh Please! I was just kidding! COmmon Joey Porter, Kendrell Bell,
come join the RATBIRDS!!!"
I'd definitely say we have more talent on DL than they do. Tony Siragusa is
overrated. AND overweight. The guy is useful because he ways 340 pounds. DOES
IT TAKE SKILL TO BE FAT??????
Hey! I could start eating 18 happy meals a day and soon become a DT for the
Ravens!!!
I really think Ray Lewis is overrated too. Yes he has lots and lots of tackles,
but that's because NO ONE ELSE ON HIS TEAM TACKLES much. He SUCKS as pass
rushing. If he gets caught in front of an OL, FB, or TE who can BLOCK, he's
finished for the play. Dermontti Dawson used to TOSS HIS ASS AROUND on Bettis
runs. Mark Bruener was no different. Even DAN KREIDER knocked his ass down on
Bettis runs up the middle last year.
I be even Hines Ward could give him a concussion. You see? Don't you get
it?!?!?!?! that's why the wuss ALWAYS stays back, NICE AND AWAY from blockers.
He makes sideline-to-sideline tackles. BIG WHUP. SO do nearly ALL the MLB's in
the league.
I'd take Brian Urlacher over him. Atleast Brian can cover the PASS AND RUSH.
Ray's the glory hog on the defense. He lets his fellow defenders absorb the
blocks so he can go in and make the tackle. OH NO! Big MEAN RAY's gonna make
another FOUR tackles against us!!!!! *Picks up skirt and runs for the hills*
Shannon Sharpe is stupid too. I'd take Mark Bruener over him ANYDAY. The poor
guy was WASHED UP ever since his days with Elway and he championship Broncos. I
respect that team because they beat us in a great AFC championship game back in
'97. Elway is quite honorable.
After perhaps one of the most spectacular finished in SuperBowl History (Rams v
Titans), the Ravens managed to produce THE MOST BORING SUPERBOWL I HAVE EVER
SEEN. I've watched some 20+ superbowls now, and this is honestly the FIRST TIME
I have fallen asleep during a Super Bowl. We shouldn't even CALL it a superbowl
game. I should just be considered as a preseason game. Atleast if it was
Oakland in the Super Bowl, we wouldn't have Ray Lewis running around, flailing
his arms, saying "I GOT AWAY WITH MURDER!!!!!!" And the ONLY reason the Raiders
lost to the Ravens was because Tony Siragusa, in all his FATTINESS, decided to
fall ontop of Rich Gannon WAY after he threw the pass, for about 19 seconds.
Well its sunday morning and it's a long wait till 8:30 for the Pitt game on
ESPN. I'm wondering why is it that i feel extremely nervous at this time? This
game is the Steelers season in a nut shell. I do believe we have the skills to
win, and the power to dominate (like the last game) but for some reason I am
nervous. very nervous. Past games you have to get a little feeling of
anticipation or excitement, but this is a little different. I need to know if
it's me or are other die hard Pitt fans feeling the same as I am. Give me some
insight guys. And lets go Steelers, beat them SOBs!
Nice thought pharaoh but remember the beating you guys took the last time? Sure
you do, and so do the ravens, it's gonna be more embarrassing for you do deal
with on your own field. You guys are using anything to get yourselves fired up
because you KNOW deep down your boys tails are already between their legs. It's
funny in a way, but i understand.....hey maybe next year you whiners might do
something. The road to the superbowl goes thru pittsburgh and YOU ARE NOT
READY!!!!!! And tell raymond to stop crying, he is "ONE" of the best middle
linebackers, but with the emergence of Mr.Kendrell Bell, raymond will be a
memory. One more thing, spikes IS nearly as good as lewis SO TELL RAYMOND TO
EITHER PLAY HARDER OR SHUT THE HELL UP. The only good raven is Mr. Rod
Woodson!!! The rest are mediocre at best. If i thought i was playing against a
murderer i might not play at my best either, maybe that's why you ladies won the
superbowl last year???? Hmmm. I really hope RAYMOND doesn't "KILL" MR. BURRESS
tonite, we all know his track record with murder now don't we. "But i didn't do
it...it was the one armed man" you guys are a freakin joke!! I'd LOVE 5 MINUTES
IN A ROOM ALONE WITH RAYMOND JUST TO WATCH HIM BITCH UP!!! GO STEELERS!!!!
P.S.---Since deep down you really do wanna be a steeler fan, apologize nicely and we'll
think about it!! Barney's butt buddy.......i like that!!!! Go Steelers!!!
Hey......is randy playing today or is he still undecided? So pathetic!!! Go
Steelers!!!!!
Don't worry about Ray Lewis. That's his schtick. I think that how it works is,
Shannon Sharpe scans every major newspaper in the country for any slight about
the Ravens, real or perceived, then comes running to Ray Lewis for his reaction.
I love how all these articles talking about how "enraged" Lewis is over all
these benign comments. I can just see him, like the Incredible Hulk, just
ripping his shirt off and throwing things around the locker room.
The Ravens without a doubt play the "nobody respects us" card more frequently
and louder than any team in the NFL.
Two problems with that, though: Number One, I think they've spent too much time
this season reading articles looking for disrespect and not enough just playing
the game, which is why Lewis is having an off season.
Number Two, it's great for those two guys to smack it up because they thrive off
it and it gets them pumped, but unfortunately for them, whether they like it or
not, they speak for the entire team, and I'm not sure every guy on that team can
back up their smack. To be specific, Elvis Grbac is going to have to win this
game for them, and I personally don't like him in a dog fight. These guys are
only putting more pressure on Grbac with their smacking, pressure he doesn't
respond all that well to.
The Ravens can win the war of words for all I care. I'll take the war on the
field.
I don'y know why but I have a hunch Bettis will play. I hink if can go he will, maybe because if we win this one we can rest him as much as we want the next few games and during our playoff bye week. It would also make sense for us to say it's day to day or a game time decision. I would like to see him get his hunred yards in the first half and then maybe begin his resting period.
Todd
P.S. Is anyone else tired of hearing that last years Ravens were the best defense of all time(after one good season). Billick said it again, but they are say we don't have a great defense because it has only been this season the Steelers have been playing well - it just irks me a litlle. It's too bad Lewis is such a criminalistic moron, I would like to see how he does without Sarah Gooshuh and Sam Adams up front.....hey this is making me thirsty.........
The steeler's still ian't getting
the ruh'spect they disserve. STILL. The ravens are three points above us on
the line. Even SPortingnews is predicting a ravens win. WHAT KINDA HOOPLA IS
THAT!?!??!?! We absolutely OWNED this team last time we met. As long as Kris
can BOOT dah' BOOT, we should be fine.
ANother great win. And i feel the steelers building momentum up against the
Ravens.
Great pre-game smak, as always, from our webmaster Tim. Yes, indeed, I have more confidence with each passing week in our football team. What really does my heart good is listening to these guys on the national sports channels. Living in Nebraska, I get all of my Steelers news from the web, and the occasional story on ESPN, FoxSports, CNN/SI, etc. etc. I am impressed by the low key, quiet confidence that exudes from virtually each member of our football team. Blue collar work ethic, from the city that was built with blue collar work ethic. Coming together as a team, getting it done every week, finding a way to win. Kickin' butt and taking names.
I have been a Steeler fan since 1966 when my parents moved into the greater Pittsburgh area. My brother still lives in Mt. Oliver. I cheer loud and hard for our Steelers on a weekly basis. This Sunday, I will finally be able to enjoy a game in the comfort of my own living room (still hollering and screaming) because it is actually on TV, and they won't be pre-empted with the KC Chefs, Denver, or St. Louis.
I am currently unemployed, recently divorced... but all is RIGHT in the world because the Steelers are WINNING!!!
First on Kordell getting too much credit, I sorta agree I posted after the first tuxedoes game when everyone said Kordell played GREAT, that the only difference between that game and the bucs game in which people labeled Kordell's play as horendous, was that Plax made some plays. Granted Kordell is passing with great accuracy but it is the play of his WRs that is the most improved, he thre in much the same manner at times last year and even the early part of this year, the difference is the WRs are making plays
On the lack of respect we are getting with the Birdies, well as much as I hate saying it they ARE the defending chu... err champs AND they were 8-4 last year too at this time, what people forget is we were the one team to beat Trent Dilfer and the birdies last year AND we owned them at Hines' field except for a few ST letdowns. So I didn't expect us to be favored in their house honestly...but that's okay 'cause I like being the underdog
on being 10-2 Damn it feels nice, nuff said...nut I won't stop there, this tea is playing really really well right now, if we can just get out TD% up a little we will be really dominating every facet of every game, we aren' going to face a real challenge until we face the Rams in the BOwl and if the Rams should happen to get knocked out of the playoffs by the Saints again then look out lorretta! Pittsburgh gets one ofr the thumb.
